A Therapy God

How often do we need God? When times are hard we plead for him to come, we need Him so much. We hunger for His presence and his comfort. When times are good and the day is fair and warm we feel we can go it alone. We call him and ask for therapy when we are down?  “OK God, take 5 because although I said I wanted you around all the time, actually I can do this on my own…”

Perhaps that’s not so bad. Perhaps, as a loving father watches his child take their own decisions in life, God wants us to stand on our own two feet as we grow?

Well then we misunderstand what it means to have God all the time.

If we feel that it is smothering then I guess we have never really known God at all. If we feel that taking our own decisions, standing on our own two feet means letting go of God then I guess we have never really know ourselves at all either.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” and “Whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

True worship and service is living in constant relationship with our creator.  It is neither smothering nor lonely. It is praising in the bad times and pleading in the good. Love for God is not a reflection of our frail human relationships, rather they are a poor reflection of it. Loving God informs every part of our lives and enriches it.
