This is my favourite orchestra, they have a very long and illustrious history although most people underestimate them. For instance their principal conductors have included Max Bruch, Sir Thomas Beecham, Sir Henry Wood, Sir Charles Groves, Libor Pešek and the current prodigy Vasily Petrenko.
The Orchestra gives approximately 70 concerts each season in its home, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, as well as concerts in venues across the city, including Liverpool’s two cathedrals. Here’s what the Telegraph said:
“the RLPO and Vasily Petrenko has established and maintained extremely high standards, both in terms of the quality and technical finesse of the orchestral playing and in the way that Petrenko leaves his stamp on the performances. testifying to the secure, fertile artistic bond that Petrenko and the RLPO have forged.”
The only problem is they are 4 hours away!
